Intermediate/Advanced Level Instruction through Masterclasses (think "mini-workshop") with a rotating instructor schedule. This is a great opportunity to study with many different instructors and styles! (Current schedule below). Masterclasses are held the last Saturday of every month from 10:30 am - 12 noon.

Vintage American Cabaret: A Masterclass with Attar
10:30 am - 12 Noon
Masterclass Price: $25 if Preregistered by June 25th! ( $30 after 6/25)
This is a fun and informative class for students who would like to feel the unique antiquity of a fun entrance song with zills and option for veil. Class will include a breakdown of the song, lyrical use of zills, grand entrance, and how to maintain a relaxed pizzazz as we enter the stage. Intermediate level and above.

Rwandan Fusion Bellydance: A Masterclass with Nabintu

Masterclass Price:
This masterclass focuses on mastering the basics of traditional Rwandan dance technique to improve your bellydance performance. We will start with a short video and brief history of Rwandan dance, warm up with Yoga and shimmy drills, then jump right into drilling Rwandan dance combinations. Be prepared for an intense arm workout! We will apply these newly learned techniques into a Rwandan Fusion choreography as well as focus on implementing them into your improvisational dance. Come ready to laugh, be challenged, learn about Rwandan culture, work on your improv, and sweat! Basic bellydance experience is required. No previous Rwandan dance experience necessary.
*Please bring a yoga mat if you have one.
Nabintu (Whitley Newman) is an emerging dance artist based in Portland, Maine. Having studied several dance forms since she was ten (ballet, jazz, modern, hip-hop, cheerleading, various ballroom/latin dances, Egyptian/tribal/fusion bellydance, traditional Rwandan, Burundian, and Congolese dance), it was natural for her creativity to take hold and branch out in her style. Inspired by the unifying and symbolic traditional Rwandan dance she learned while living in central Africa, as well as the empowering history of bellydance, Nabintu fused the two creating a beautifully unique style called Rwandan Fusion.
Her passion is to travel the world bringing the important therapeutic aspects of dance, music, and visual art in order to promote
reconciliation while continuing to challenge herself in learning diverse cultures and arts.
