Performance F.A.Q
How long is the show?
A typical show can be anywhere from 10-30 minutes-plus, depending on the price tier. However, I am flexible and there can be extensions on time if desired. Please see Pricing & Packages for details.
Will you bring music? What if I want to hire a band?
I highly encourage the usage of live music for the best quality entertainment and am open to working with musicians to make your event an incredible experience! If you’ve already hired a band, please send along their information so I can discuss with them what they play for dancers. I also frequently work with many I know, and can organize the addition of live music for you - from one musician to an entire band! Additional rates and conditions will apply. I can otherwise provide a CD (or iphone) of music tailored to your event, with specific music upon request. The venue should have a good quality sound-system that plays CDs or ipod/phone (and louder is better). Usually I will stay out of sight until the music has begun playing.
Is the performance appropriate for children?
Absolutely! All performances are entirely family-friendly. Children usually love watching and dancing with the dancer!
What kind of music is used?
Depending on your preference and type of show, music can range from the traditional to modern for belly dance, and for Celtic dance: traditional to contemporary, to bagpipes to Celtic Rock. I am completely open to working with the event organizer to come up with music that fits the theme of your event, be it fun and playful, elegant, or with a particular theme!
What if I want more than one Belly/Celtic Dancer?
There are many talented dancers that I collaborate with, and am more than happy to schedule their time if your event requires two or more dancers. Big-stage performances with many dancers and elaborate choreography can be booked upon request if done so with plenty of time in advance. Please contact me for pricing details and more information.
What about tipping?
Gratuity can be added to your payment upon request, usually about 20 to 30%. However, while tips are appreciated, they are never obligatory. Tipping may also be done in person at the event by members of the audience as appropriate (Ankara Rose does not accept tips in costume). Traditional methods of tipping in Arabic culture include the “money shower” (tossing the money over the dancer while she dances).
Why is it so expensive?
You're not really paying for just the actual minutes that I'll be dancing at your event (though of course that's taken into account!). The hours of preparation and behind-the-scenes organizing and choreographing your show, the time spent getting ready the day of and into costume/makeup, and the costumes...are very expensive! You're also paying for the years of practice and experience that I'll be bringing with me. Decades of dance classes and training in various styles, costumes, and workouts all help to build a great performance artist, but they can also be very expensive. If an artist can afford to work at this as a career and serious professional, the quality of art presented increases dramatically. Also, think of it as supporting the arts in your community!
How far in advance should I make the booking?
The sooner the better so that your time is reserved! Preferably at least 2 weeks in advance. Last minute shows may be accepted, however, depending upon availability.
What about out of town and international shows?
Ankara Rose lives in the New England Area, but often performs throughout the US. Shows outside of New England will need to be booked farther in advance, preferably a minimum of 3-4 weeks (US/Canada), longer for international. Travel rates/fees will apply. (*Exceptions are if I am already in your area for public performances and workshops! Please see my TOUR CALENDAR to see if I'll be near you, or even better - contact me for my schedule dates beyond what is listed on the site calendar).
Can I get a sample DVD?
Performance DVD's are available for agents and overseas venues considering entering into a performance contract. There are also video clips posted on my Gallery page, or you can visit my YouTube Channel.
