Intro to Celtic Fusion Belly Dance Workshop
with LIVE MUSIC by violinist Corey Walden!
10:30 am - 12:30 pm
Introducing… Celtic Fusion Belly Dance! Ankara Rose’s signature dance style!
In this workshop, you will be introduced to basic beginner technique in Belly Dance, Irish Step, and Scottish Highland dancing. After a full warm up to prepare for an energy-packed class, we will delve into each dance form individually to learn basic steps with respect for each style's own nuances, music and culture. We will then follow that segment by applying these techniques into what is the Celtic Fusion Belly Dance style: combining Irish step, Scots Highland, and Middle Eastern (Belly Dance) into one truly unique art! Come prepared to work hard, learn something new, and above all - have a blast - just in time for St. Paddy's Day!
Workshop will be accompanied in part with live music by professional violinist Corey Walden (Rockin' Road to Dublin - Tour, The American Rogues, Hunting McLeod)!
For more info on Corey Walden (and violin/fiddle instruction) you can check out his school's Facebook page here: The Southern NH Suzuki Association.
This workshop is open to teens (14+) and adults of all ages, dance levels, genders, and levels of fitness. Everyone is welcome. Lower-impact modifications are offered for those concerned about the higher-impact Celtic dance forms (and everyone is encouraged to listen to and do what is best for their own body!).
No prior dance experience is necessary (brand-new-to-dance beginners welcome!).
Please bring a water bottle, and ENERGY!
Note about footwear: Any dance shoe (Irish or Highland ghillies, ballet or jazz slippers, dance sneakers, etc), or bare feet (socks can often be too slippery). Please NO street shoes on the dance floor! Many Celtic adult dance students have loved dance sneakers for support and cushioning during the Irish Step and Highland technique part of classes (taking these off for Belly dance or fusion portions). My favorite brands in these are Bloch and Capezio. A clean sneaker (such as one used exclusively indoors for a workout class) could work as well, but cannot be one used outside at all as to preserve the dance flooring. Bare feet are often the most popular choice however, so no need to go buy dance shoes for this workshop!
