Happy New Year! May 2013 continue to bring blessings to those who had a great 2012, and bring double to those it didn't (for a better 2013)! Many of you may be focusing on those New Years resolutions already, or just setting goals for the New Year. A few popular ones often tend to be “get in shape” or “try something new”. For those of you who have been thinking of trying a Bellydance class, why not give it a try? Beginner classes are fun and no-pressure, with no prior dance experienced needed and two-left feet always welcome ;0) New session starts Thursday, January 17th in Merrimack NH! And for those of you experienced dancers, now’s the time to re-evaluate and stick to those dance goals. Whether that’s taking a private to hone in on improvement, trying a completely new dance style to further inspire and improve your art, or setting workshop and event goals for 2013, there’s lots in the works for you this year as well, here and in the larger New England dance community. In this class, Ankara Rose will teach the fundamentals of Bellydance, introducing the styles and using a veil. Classes will include warmup, posture and isolations, arms, shimmy drills and Belly work exercises. Class will end with short combinations and review of what was learned in class. You don’t need any dance experience to enjoy this class! Registration is encouraged, though drop ins are welcome (after 2/7 please email [email protected] if you wish to drop in for the first time).
FULL 8 WEEK SESSION: $98.00 ($12.25/class).

Winter class session starts Wednesday February 6, 2013!
Belly dance originated as a dance FOR women BY women, passed down from mother to daughter to preserve its sacredness and honor its connections to birth and fertility. Bellydance naturally drops our center of awareness to the cradle of our hips, helping us to accept ourselves for the feminine beauty that we possess and connect with our growing baby in our bellies. It is low impact and gentle on the body, targeting the muscles needed for labor and to help baby descend. Long before modern medicine, women used bellydance to reduce pain in labor and bring their babies into the world.
These classes are for women in all stages of pregnancy, including those who have received the go-ahead to exercise again in the Postpartum period. Postpartum mothers are more than welcome to wear their new babies in class, gently rocking the little ones to sleep to the ancient rhythms from the Middle East. These classes are relaxed and laid-back, a warm supportive atmosphere where we can celebrate the beautiful journey into motherhood.
Class will start with a gentle warmup and stretch, move into strengthening exercises, then proceed into the basics of bellydance movements along with easy low-impact combinations to get you dancing. We cover moves that are beneficial, gentle and healing, as well as going over those which should be avoided at this time. Class always ends with a relaxing and centering cool down.
* Midwives, Nurses, Doctors and medical students are more than welcome to participate in these classes for the purpose of learning/further education and appreciating the beauty of bellydance at this stage in life.

Belly dance originated as a dance FOR women BY women, passed down from mother to daughter to preserve its sacredness and honor its connections to birth and fertility. Bellydance naturally drops our center of awareness to the cradle of our hips, helping us to accept ourselves for the feminine beauty that we possess and connect with our growing baby in our bellies. It is low impact and gentle on the body, targeting the muscles needed for labor and to help baby descend. Long before modern medicine, women used bellydance to reduce pain in labor and bring their babies into the world.
These classes are for women in all stages of pregnancy, including those who have received the go-ahead to exercise again in the Postpartum period. Postpartum mothers are more than welcome to wear their new babies in class, gently rocking the little ones to sleep to the ancient rhythms from the Middle East. These classes are relaxed and laid-back, a warm supportive atmosphere where we can celebrate the beautiful journey into motherhood.
Class will start with a gentle warmup and stretch, move into strengthening exercises, then proceed into the basics of bellydance movements along with easy low-impact combinations to get you dancing. We cover moves that are beneficial, gentle and healing, as well as going over those which should be avoided at this time. Class always ends with a relaxing and centering cool down.
* Midwives, Nurses, Doctors and medical students are more than welcome to participate in these classes for the purpose of learning/education and appreciating the beauty of bellydance at this stage in life.
Winter Session (6 Weeks, February 6 - March 13, 2013), 10:30 - 11:30 am

Things have been a whirlwind these past few months, and are finally slowing down a little bit. Amidst the Holiday busy-ness to come, I’m really also looking forward to fall & winter hikes, doing crafts with my little one, time for me to sit in front of the sewing machine and work on new designs, hot drinks in hand and just relaxing with family :0) Also brainstorming my new ideas and programs at Ankara Rose World Dance! Since spring, it has been a whirlwind of shows and time on the road for Corey and I. At times every week we were traveling, doing a workshop a week, shows Friday – Sunday (sometimes Wednesday – Sunday), then driving back home again to my regular classes and private students here in NH. Nothing new for touring artists I know, but a whole different thing when it comes to a family dynamic! In the midst of it all we moved into our new place this past August! It was great to see friends all over the east coast, and I loved sharing my Celtic BellyFusion with those of you who came to my workshops! Traveling was made all the more fun by the occasional accompaniment of my 4 year old son (and drummer) Ian. I really wish I had time to write a blog for all our adventures!
But now I am grateful for a bit to slow down. Well, not really slow down actually – just be home for a bit and shift gears a little! So what’s in store for this month?

Classes take place once a month and cover proper technique and history in Scottish Highland, Irish Step, and Middle Eastern dance. With an understanding and respect for each dance form's individual place and beauty, we will then focus on a fusion of these dance forms into what is Celtic BellyFusion. Proper exercises will be covered for injury prevention, and practice outside of class will be expected. Class will also work toward eventual choreographies as a group. Join at any time; Open to teens & adults of all levels (Beg-Pro), genders, fitness levels and sizes.
Pre-Req: Prior bellydance experience is required (Beginners welcome); No Celtic dance experience necessary.

There will be NO regular Thursday beginner classes at Broadway Bound in November & December due to schedule, private functions & holidays. I’m excited to announce a change in the program starting in January 2013: Thursday night Beginner Bellydance classes will run in sessions to better accommodate students and learning, and advancement classes for those students already intermediate level. Winter session details and dates to come soon! YIP! Can’t wait!
Private lessons will continue as usual in November and December (*if interested in starting a private/semi private lesson at place of your choosing, please contact [email protected] for availability and details). Special discounted rate for those who sign up for ongoing private instruction!

The Rogues in Japan & Guam! / Private Violin Instruction
The top Celtic/World band the Rogues are currently on their way to Japan & Guam for a tour sponsored by the US Navy! I will not be dancing with them on this tour, and am very excited for the guys - who if you aren't familiar, are known for their support of the troops! Be sure to check ‘em out at www.therogues.us.

COSTUME DESIGN & CONSTRUCTION
I am available once again for custom bellydance, fusion, dance costumes and workout/everyday wear! I have been involved in costume design & construction since 2001 (when the first LOTR movie come out ;0) originally inspired by the beautiful designs by Ngila Dickson from the Lord of The Rings films. I will forever be eternally grateful to Peter Jackson and Ngila Dickson for helping me to find my second passion, second only to dance! Since historical period clothing and movie replicas were my first love (costumes for theatre/film), when I branched into functional dance garb shortly thereafter I loved the look of the Ghawazee and Turkish Coats. Functional and gorgeous Turkish coats are my specialty, and any picture you see of me in one is designed & made exclusively by me. For bellydance, they are a beautiful alternative to exposing your belly (not that there’s anything wrong with that! ;0), and still show those belly isolations wonderfully! Since those early years, I have also branched into designing and constructing oriental bedlah sets from the ground up, as well as reconstructing old ones for myself and clients into new functional & fashionable designs. I love the process and am one of those insane people that actually love beading. Ordering information will be coming to the Ankara Rose website soon.
